Swap crowded tourist spots for something way more meaningful. Dive into the crystal-blue coastline of Ambalangoda, chill by untouched white-sand beaches, and become part of a real sea turtle conservation mission. This is your chance to travel with purpose, connect with nature, and help protect some of the ocean’s most vulnerable creatures.
Our Turtle Conservation Program is proudly recognized by the Sri Lankan government as the country’s only certified disabled turtle conservation project. Here, every turtle has a story. Many arrive injured from fishing nets, plastic waste, boat accidents, or other human-related threats — and your presence helps give them a second chance. Located just steps from the Indian Ocean, our center focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for wounded sea turtles before releasing them back into the wild. Out of the world’s seven sea turtle species, five can be found in the Indian Ocean — and our project currently protects four incredible species: Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Green, and Olive Ridley turtles. You’ll be joining a passionate local community caring for 42 disabled turtles, while also supporting a separate hatchery where hundreds of baby turtles are nurtured before making their journey back to the ocean. This project is driven by purpose, not profit. Beyond caring for turtles, we actively work with local fishermen and nearby communities to spread awareness about marine conservation and create long-term positive change for Sri Lanka’s coastline and ecosystems. Please note: For the safety of both participants and turtles, anyone with open wounds on their hands should avoid direct contact with the animals. Our experienced coordinators will guide you throughout the program to ensure safe and responsible turtle care.
