Step into the peaceful world of Himalayan monasteries and experience a journey that goes far beyond travel. Teach English to young novice monks, share cultures, and become part of a meaningful community while surrounded by mountains, meditation, and mindful living. This program is your chance to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and experience the beauty of Buddhism through real daily life in a monastery. From teaching in the classroom to joining moments of calm and reflection, every day brings new perspectives, genuine connections, and unforgettable memories.
This meaningful teaching program takes place in Buddhist monasteries around the Himalayan town of Darjeeling — a destination famous for its misty mountain scenery, tea plantations, and peaceful monastery culture. As a participant, you’ll teach English to novice monks while also getting the rare opportunity to experience monastery life from the inside. Along the way, you’ll learn more about Buddhism, mindfulness, meditation, and the daily routines practiced by monks living in the Himalayas. The project supports several monasteries with monks aged between 8 and 25 years old. Classes range from Nursery to Grade 5, usually with around 10–15 students per class, creating a fun and interactive learning environment. While English teaching is the main focus, you may also get involved in subjects like Math, Science, or anything you’re passionate about sharing with the students. Beyond teaching, this experience is all about cultural exchange and personal growth. Spend your days surrounded by peaceful mountain views, meaningful conversations, and a slower rhythm of life that helps you reconnect with what truly matters. After classes, you can relax with fellow participants through fun group activities, shared meals, and chill evenings together. And when the weekend comes, it’s time to explore. Discover Darjeeling’s scenic viewpoints, historic monasteries, local markets, and hidden gems around the region. Our local team will be happy to help organize weekend adventures so you can make the most of your Himalayan experience.
