Help young children, monks, and local adults build confidence in English communication while becoming part of a meaningful cultural exchange experience. Spend your mornings supporting local teachers in the classroom, then head into the community in the afternoons to teach conversational English to monks and local residents. Through fun lessons, shared experiences, and real human connection, you’ll contribute to communities beyond the usual tourist path. This is your chance to teach, connect, and create impact in preschools, temples, and community spaces around Hikkaduwa.
Hikkaduwa may be famous for its tropical beaches and vibrant coral reefs, but beyond the coastline, many local communities still face limited access to quality education. This program is designed to help bridge that gap by placing volunteers in preschools, village classrooms, temples, and community learning spaces where your support truly matters. As a volunteer, you’ll help deliver engaging English lessons, support local teachers, and encourage students of all ages to build confidence through communication and interaction. Teaching placements are arranged based on current community needs and availability. While every volunteer joining the teaching program is guaranteed a placement, the exact location or school cannot be confirmed before arrival.
