Based in the laid-back coastal village of Lovina in Northern Bali, this program invites you to step into the world of animal welfare and make a real difference. Work alongside passionate local teams to care for stray and vulnerable dogs while promoting kindness, respect and responsible pet ownership. From rescue and rehabilitation to daily care and community outreach, you’ll play a hands-on role in improving the lives of dogs in a region where support is still limited. Beyond the work, this is your chance to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Bali — building connections, exchanging cultures and travelling with purpose. Perfect for animal lovers who want more than just a trip.
Lovina is home to many stray and free-roaming dogs, shaped by a mix of cultural norms, limited access to veterinary care and ongoing challenges like uncontrolled breeding and abandonment. For many of these dogs, daily life means surviving without reliable food, shelter or medical support. This Animal Care program exists to support local efforts in changing that reality. Through rescue, rehabilitation and long-term welfare initiatives, dogs receive consistent care — from feeding and cleaning to exercise, emotional support, medical treatment, vaccinations and sterilisation. As a participant, you’ll work side by side with the local team, gaining insight into real-world animal welfare challenges in Indonesia and how sustainable solutions are built on the ground. Community connection is at the heart of this project. By engaging with local families and groups, the program encourages responsible pet ownership, humane treatment and adoption pathways for dogs ready for a new home. The goal is not just to help individual dogs, but to create lasting, positive change through awareness, compassion and shared responsibility.
