Step into local life and be part of something meaningful. Support small restaurants, campsites, and hotels while helping bring new life to unused spaces and community-led sustainability projects. Tucked away about 6 hours from Tokyo, Otaki Village is your escape into raw nature and slow living. Work side by side with locals, connect with Japanese guests, and experience the real rhythm of rural tourism. At the same time, you’ll support a passionate community shaping Otaki into a hub for sustainability and self-sufficient living.
Hidden in the mountains of Nagano, Otaki is a go-to nature escape for Japanese travelers—think hiking, canoeing, camping in summer, and snowy adventures in winter. While still off the international radar, the community is ready to welcome the world and share what makes this place special. In this program, you’ll intern across local tourism spots—restaurants, campsites, hotels—getting hands-on with daily operations while contributing to projects that shape the future of tourism in the area. Your role goes beyond daily tasks. You’ll support sustainable tourism, help preserve traditional crafts, and be part of protecting Otaki’s cultural identity. It’s real experience, real impact. Whether you're helping guests or getting involved in seasonal work, every small action contributes to something bigger—while you fully immerse yourself in rural Japan.
